Florida Gators Recruiting: National Signing Day Finally Arrives
National signing day has finally arrived and the Florida Gators look to close strong. A lot has been made in GatorNation regarding the 2011 class; however, any negativity around the class is perplexing. Much of the aggravation seems to be around the current ranking of the class; which judging by the website you are looking at, the Gators seem to be a consensus top 20 class.
Not to worry, GatorNation! The class rankings are simply a numbers game. At the time of this article, the Gators only have 17 recruits committed. When Texas or Alabama have 23 or 24 committed, the numbers do not add up for the Gators.
Florida still hopes to land a couple of top players today and this will put them over the 20 mark, which will put them in the top 10 when it is all said and done.
A couple of players the Gators still have a shot at are Curtis Grant, Marcus Roberson and Stephone Anthony, to name a few. Curtis Grant announces at 1:30 Eastern time, Stephone Anthony announces at 11:30 Eastern time. If you follow twitter, you may want to stay close during these times. A brief look at the following player’s profile:
Curtis Grant – Grant is the best linebacker on the board. With great speed and size, he is a prototypical SEC linebacker. There is some talent on the roster; however, it’s likely there will be quite a bit of shuffling in the roster to provide the needed depth. Grant is certain to provide an immediate impact at linebacker.
Stephone Anthony – Anthony is built much like Grant and could be just as good. As mentioned above, the talent and depth is needed at linebacker. Landing one would be great, but grabbing both Anthony and Grant would immediately provide depth and talent at the linebacker position, immediately making linebacker a team strength.
Marcus Roberson – Roberson has terrific height for a corner and would add some height to a short secondary. Roberson would probably not make an immediate impact, but with Janoris Jenkins coming back, he would not necessarily need to. The Gators currently have a great list of defensive backs on the roster that have shown promise. With the addition of Roberson, the Gators can continue to rotate players in and out and gain the needed experience.

Marcus Roberson Announcement: What DB Signing Means for Florida Football
St. Thomas Aquinas (FL) High School defensive back Marcus Roberson has made another decision about a school: Florida. The Gators become Roberson's third committed school in a week, as the talented defensive back was a Texas Tech pledge, switched to Auburn and now to the Gators.
Florida gets a huge pick up here, as the 6'1", 180-pound Roberson has the versatility to play both cornerback and safety in Gainesville. He gives the Gator class an elite level player, which should secure the residents of The Swamp a top 15 recruiting class at the worst.
Some have said they are worried about Roberson's character and state of mind as he has flip-flopped between three schools within the last 10 days.
He verballed to Texas Tech, where his uncle is Otis Mounds, the Red Raiders cornerbacks coach.
Then, at the start of this week, Roberson switched to Auburn. "I know I'm going to Auburn, that's the school I've wanted to go to for months." Roberson stated. Yet now, he is poised to head to Florida, which is a bit of a head scratcher.
Any way you slice it, Roberson is a talent. His size and athletic ability will give Florida defensive coordinator Dan Quinn a chance to do an array of things on defense. Quinn can now play a lot of big nickel personnel if they leave Roberson at safety. Or if Roberson is slated as a corner, press man or hard cover-2 could be employed.
This is big for Florida football and new coach Will Muschamp. He proves that he can land a top prospect, in-state, and win a heated SEC recruiting battle.
